All -

On March 6, 2017, we will have our last show for a while.  Your producer, editor, and host needs to spend more time on other passions for some time.  Keep watching Classic Doctor Who - and try to watch with your friends.  Take care and God Bless!

Mar 6, 2017

In Part 4 of Frontios, so much needed to happen, including that necessity of the TARDIS coming back together (which turns out to be a McGuffin!)  But as always, Jeff, Felicity and Josh remind you to watch to story before you listen to a silly commentary from a group of Doctor Who fans.

As the entertainment of Frontios comes to a conclusion, just do us a favor, and don't mention that we were ever here.

As Frontios Part 3 gets started - it's TRACTATORS!  Though not mentioned, it seems like that name came as a result of Tractors and Potatoes.  Not so much to Turlough who is staring into space and drooling like a mad dog.  Jeff, Felicity and Josh make the best of this by showing faith in Deaths Unaccountable - and wonder why this was so important that Tegan had to mention that to every character she came into contact with...

Doctor Who - The High Council Episode 90, Frontios Part 2

As Part 2 begins, Felicity wants to know what happened with the TARDIS, Josh wants to understand about Tegan's leather skirt, and Jeff just wants to be Felicity.  While we all decided to Cosplay as drunken Convention goers at Gally, should we consider Brazen as an option?

Doctor Who - The High Council Episode 89, Frontios Part 1

Jeff and Felicity joins Josh again with a perhaps underrated Peter Davison story: Frontios.  It is likely that there will be a fair amount of discussion about battery acid, Turlough saliva and wood lice.  But then again, that's the High Council for you.

Doctor Who - The High Council Episode 88, The Twin Dilemma Part 4

Well, this is the end of The Twin Dilemma, whether you like it or not.  Steve is egging on Sean, and Sean feels egged on.  It is only fitting that things have deteriorated as they have in the podcast, while we watch the ending of Colin Baker's debut story.  So while we provide gardening tips, what is the best coffee, and whether it was intentional that Edgeworth has the hair of the 1st Doctor.  Sean is lying down.  That is likely best.  Just remember, next week, better story.

Doctor Who - The High Council Episode 87, The Twin Dilemma Part 3

Well, things are going further downhill, as Sean begins to talk of what makes Podcast Code (or Gold).  We are not friendly to Nicola's acting here leading into Part 3, and despite this - we press on by attempting to speak about other topics vs the actual episode itself.  Again, this is why The High Council is different every week, and perhaps the fact that everyone has been podcasting for approximately 4 hours by this time has effected the behavior.  Oh, yeah - we also talk about Colin Baker's cat pins.

Doctor Who - The High Council Episode 86, The Twin Dilemma Part 2

**Disclaimer: This podcast contains a fair amount of bile spewed, and if you are sensitive to such spewing, you will not enjoy this episode**

A bump? A bump? What is the Doctor referring to here? As Part 2 gets started, Sean is trying to get a story out and Steve and Josh won’t let him. We debate the presence of two twin boys vs twin girls. Why did they give Colin Baker the final story of Peter Davison’s last season? Did this work? Why is Peri’s skirt green?

Doctor Who - The High Council Episode 85, The Twin Dilemma Part 1

Well, it has come to this.  Enough drooling over some of Doctor Who's best.  The TARDIS Tavern boys Sean and Steve join Josh to raise a glass to Colin Baker's debut story "The Twin Dilemma".  How much Whiskey does one need to appreciate this episode 1?  What is the mysterious thing about the twin boys that we cannot figure out?  Will the hosts feeling like choking each other by the time it's done?  Please enjoy this delving into the dark side of Who Commentaries.

Doctor Who - The High Council Episode 84, Kinda Part 4

What a Bigly episode we have for you today! Kinda Part 4! We all agree that Janet Fielding took Part 3 off and was a means to an end. But Kyle looks into the box and loses his mind and drops apples on our heads. So enjoy the podcast while Erik explains all of the excesses of the colonizers and how Deva Loka must be the center of the universe. Aris has voice and so do we dammit. As we play around with current politics a bit, and wonder if we can mend people, we enjoy the craziness of Hindle and actually do a fair amount of laughing that you wouldn’t expect in this story.

Please listen to Kyle and Erik's fantastic podcast about the Writers of the Classic Series of Doctor Who:

Doctor Who - The High Council Episode 83, Kinda Part 3

This week we are going to open Erik’s box or Hindle will have us SHOT! In the box, we realize that it is clearly a tourist promotional video for coming to Deva Loka (in an Australian accent). But as Erik, Kyle and Josh proceed through Kinda Part 3, we all agree wholeheartedly that the Doctor should be a Gallifreyan and not a normal human male. We do however take acting points from Matthew Waterhouse who is obviously teaching us and Richard Todd how to act when you are not speaking in a scene. So we learn how to not-mime, and we enjoy the idea of recalibrating the Davison companions in a total ret-con. Josh had to bring up The Daemons and we seize the “not-we”. Enjoy!

Great stories of Mary Morris building a house out of a stone by bringing those stones up a hill dominate the beginning of this podcast along with a short discussion of Sapphire and Steel. But Kinda Part 2 has so much depth, we have to jump into the episode talking about the Doctor’s behavior and how the Peter Davison Doctor is similar to the Patrick Troughton Doctor. Enjoy while we jump to conclusions even though the Doctor doesn’t.

Doctor Who - The High Council Episode 81, Kinda Part 1

In a strange twist of events, Doctor Who - The High Council has become Doctor Who - The Writers' Room (with Josh).  Happy to have Kyle and Erik, Josh throws the shiny DVD for Kinda into the player and we begin to discuss this really dense story that seems to be an outlier in Season 19.  Enjoy Part 1 - because in this case, you almost want to take this story a week at a time.

Doctor Who - The High Council Episode 80, The Aztec Part 4

Declaration:  The editors of this particular podcast apologize profusely about the terrible accents that proceed the actual podcast here.  Feel free to fast forward through this part.

As Part 4 begins, Simon, Andrew and Josh have literally lost it.  But they do continue to enjoy The Aztecs.  Please listen as we discuss Aztec Bars, Oil of Ulay, TK Maxx vs TJ Maxx and the dangers of Americans sounding like whiny Brits or Brits sounding like 1970's American drama Americans.  We can't rewrite our accents - not one line.

We apparently didn't change history, but we did save one man.  Still trying to figure out who.

Doctor Who - The High Council Episode 79, The Aztecs Part 3

This is not your everyday Classic Doctor Who Part 3.  As Simon, Andrew and Josh embark on The Bride of Sacrifice, we all realize that the usual Part 3 run-around does not appear in The Aztecs, and we jump in with great excitement as the story does move forward significantly here.

That said, we all try out our Mexican accents Salamander style and while enjoying this episode, and do our level-best to imitate David Collings doing Vorus from Revenge of the Cybermen.

While The Doctor gets engaged to a woman 30 years his junior, we marvel at the great pensioner extras.  Do join us for the banter!  And is Greta Garbo dressing the actors for this??

Doctor Who - The High Council Episode 78, The Aztecs Part 2

Still joined by Simon and Andrew, Josh begins The Aztecs Part 2 by discussing the virtues of The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes.  And while we can't get away from the music of that movie, or the thought that TV Centre will be used for expensive housing, we still jump into P2 with both feet.

We decide to select a wife as a Perfect Victim and Josh feels like he needs to explain every reference.  So listen.  It may be fun!

Doctor Who - The High Council Episode 77, The Aztecs Part 1

A new week, a new story, a new High Council Episode, and new High Council members!  Andrew Smith and Simon Harries joins Josh to embark on the very early, but very well-respected William Hartnell story The Aztecs.  While it's a shame we can't hear the music, we do appreciate the performances of the time team and the supporting actors.  We may even digress into torture scenes in British TV.  But hey, that's why we do the High Council.

Doctor Who - The High Council Episode 76, The Sea Devils Part 6

A very actiony Doctor Who episode is appreciated by Josh and his two amazing guests Liz and Deb.  We are determining whether this is an episode called "The Flirting and the Doctor".  Jo's pantsuit is the coolest thing about the Sea Devils - only to be replaced by Jo herself who is amazing in this story.   Josh is trying not to be a white-straight-male during this episode and while loving Katy Manning, he is trying not to be in desperate love with her.  Whether it is blow-hard or Blofeld, this episode is worth listening to because Deb and Liz rock.  Enjoy!

Doctor Who - The High Council Episode 75, The Sea Devils Part 5

"Why can't we all get along??"

Pertwee graphics and the importance of the Episode Selection Screen is discussed as we start our commentary of Part 5 of the Sea Devils.  We learned a little something new about Liz as she clearly wanted to join the Navy because of Donald Sumter.  Deb on the other hand, is fascinated by the mesh that the Sea Devils are wearing.  We are once again waiting on sandwiches or breakfast and rough-cut marmalade.  As long as there is tea, and sugar, Jo can play the Doctor better than the Doctor in this episode.  So enjoy Josh, Deb and Liz as we embark on this penultimate episode of the Sea Devils.

Doctor Who - The High Council Episode 74, The Sea Devils Part 4

Is it possible that the Doctor steals Jo's sandwiches - AGAIN?  Yes, Episode 4 begins with Trenchard making the mistake of not believing in the Master.  Talk of Steven Moffat's obsession with Donald Sumter, facial hair, and more points about The Time Monster.  What a pleasure it is to watch Classic Doctor Who on the virtual couch with Deb and Liz.  If you don't appreciate these commentaries - you are missing the boat kids.

Sticks and balls man.  Sticks and balls.

You must trust me a little bit longer.

Any comment on "groping" was made WELL PRIOR to Donald Trump's open mike gaffe.

Doctor Who - The High Council Episode 73, The Sea Devils Part 3

As we begin Episode 3, we get a full recap of the sword fight (which can be defined several ways), and definitely speculated on what type of meat may be in the sandwich that the 3rd Doctor consumed.  So once again, on our virtual couch Josh is enjoying his time with Deb and Liz and time is going pretty quickly.  We did debate the current trend of mustaches as well as Jo Grant's amazing Emma Peel impression.  Malcolm Hulke certainly knew how to write Jo - and we are all appreciating it!  So don't wait, listen in...enjoy Doctor Who - The High Council!

Doctor Who - The High Council Episode 72, The Sea Devils Part 2

If you stayed with us beyond Episode 1, you will be rewarded with more Liz and Deb who is far more interesting than Josh quite frankly.  So it's a mermaid, she can't resist us!  Or...is it a Sea Devil??!?? Is Clayton Hickman a character in Doctor Who?  Is Chin and Trenchard the same character?  Are we going to get sandwiches anytime soon?  Is Trenchard interested in Jo?  All these answers and so many more answered by our High Council team.  Enjoy episode 2!

Doctor Who - The High Council Episode 71, The Sea Devils Part 1

Whether you like flirting with swords, or flirting with sandwiches, please join High Council members Liz and Deb with Josh to enjoy 1972's own, Malcolm Hulke's The Sea Devils.  Staying away from "pro-level trivia", Josh attempts to clap several times in this first episode.

So enjoy Deb and Liz - because I completely did.  This is what watching classic Who is all about, if you don't like it, turn it off right away.  For everyone else, ENJOY!

Doctor Who - The High Council Episode 70, Logopolis Part 4

Yes, it has come to this.  The episode where we kill Tom Baker.  As Peter, Rob and Toby engage with Part 4, things are getting as tired as Tom Baker's face in S18.  Enjoy the final episode of Tom Baker - as well as the final episode of these landmark The High Council Episodes.

Doctor Who - The High Council Episode 67, Logopolis Part 1

In a very special High Council, filled with talented writers, Josh attempts to put together a variety of Skype recordings into one episode.  This week, and the next 3 will include the dulcet tones of Toby Hadoke (Moths Ate My Doctor Who Scarf), Rob Shearman (Dalek, Jubilee, Chimes of Midnight etc), and Peter Harness (Kill the Moon, The Zygon Invasion, The Zygon Inversion).  As we investigate Tom Baker's final story, we learn quickly what kind of car shouldn't be on the road as well as how to change a tyre.  Enjoy.  Like I did.
